Samsung Channels a Great Recipe for Success Exciting new food show to boost culinary business in SA

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 14 September, 2016 – Samsung South Africa is sponsoring an exciting new cooking show with a twist, which does not only highlight delicious food, but also gives aspiring chefs the business knowledge they need to turn their culinary talent into commercial success.

The new TV series, Recipe for Success, started this week on The Home Channel, DSTV channel 176.

Hosted by Samsung Brand Ambassador and celebrity chef, Reuben Riffel, Recipe for Success features passionate young culinary students, giving them an opportunity to showcase their skills and possibly win real life job offers.

From 13 September to 11 December 2016, Recipe for Success will be broadcast six times a week, following the journey of 12 Capsicum Culinary Studio students from around the country.  They will each plan, prepare and present their dishes to Reuben Riffel and a guest chef, who will evaluate their performance and gauge their professional competence.

Venturing further into the business of food, Riffel will speak to some of South Africa’s best-known personalities and top entrepreneurs about their food and wine preferences, as well as their personal recipe for success. Each week, the show will feature some of the best chefs and restaurants in the country, whilst viewers will be given the chance to win fantastic prizes, totalling nearly R250 000.

Featuring chefs include James Gaag from La Calombe, Niel Jewel from Bread and Wine, Archie Maclean from Catharinas, George Jardine from Jardine and Pieter Vlok from Mont Marie; Recipe for Success will also cover interviews with high profile South Africans, including Samsung ambassadors Maps Maponyane, Jo-Ann Strauss and Cameron van der Burgh.

The show aims to both entertain and to help young professionals advance their careers. Throughout the programme of episodes, each student will compete for the chance to reach the number one spot.

Michelle Potgieter, Director: Brand & Communications at Samsung Electronics South Africa, says the Recipe for Success TV series aligns with Samsung’s focus on excellence, innovation and development. “We’re excited to bring this show to South Africa, because it not only showcases lifestyle excellence, it opens the doors for deserving young people to gain a foothold on the career ladder,” she says.

Riffel, a long supporter of youth development initiatives, says: “In this series, students will be cooking for some of South Africa's top chefs. If they have what it takes, they might walk away with a dream job. What makes this show unique is that we will explore not only the world of food, but the business behind the food industry as well – we will literally be looking for real life recipes for success.”
